what you’ll need:

  • 1 white paper plate
  • Yellow construction paper (for the chick)
  • Orange construction paper (for the beak)
  • Blue construction paper (background)
  • Glue stick or school glue
  • Scissors
  • Black and pink markers

Instructions:

1. Create the Chick’s Body

Cut a medium-sized circle out of the yellow construction paper. This will be the chick’s body. If you’re working with younger kids, draw the circle for them to cut along, or pre-cut the shapes in advance.

2. Make and Attach the Beak

Cut a small triangle from the orange paper. Fold it slightly in the center to make it look like an open beak or keep it flat for a simpler version. Glue the beak in the center of the yellow circle.

Step 3: Draw the Face

Use a black marker to draw two round eyes above the beak. Add a little sparkle by drawing a tiny white dot in each eye if you’d like. Then use the pink marker or crayon to gently shade two small circles on the cheeks to give the chick a happy, blushing look.

4. Shape the Cracked Egg

Take a white paper plate and cut it in half using a zigzag pattern to mimic a cracked eggshell. You can lightly draw the zigzag with a pencil first to make cutting easier and more accurate.

5. Assemble the Craft

Place the blue construction paper down as your background. Glue the chick’s body (the yellow circle) near the center. Then glue the bottom half of the cracked egg plate below the chick, and the top half just above its head. The chick should now look like it’s popping out of the egg.
