Supplies You’ll Need:
- Green craft paper
- Mini pom poms
- Small googly eyes
- Scissors
- Craft glue or glue dots
- Hole punch
- Marker (Optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Cut Out a Leaf from Green Craft Paper
Begin by folding a sheet of green craft paper in half to help guide your cutting. Use a pencil to sketch a basic leaf shape. Once you’re happy with the outline, carefully cut along the lines.
2. Punch Out Bite Holes
Use a standard hole punch to make 4 to 6 holes scattered around the leaf. These represent the bites the hungry caterpillar took as he munched through the greenery.
3. Draw Leaf Veins (Optional)
With a marker, guide your child in drawing simple veins branching out from the center of the leaf.
4. Create the Caterpillar’s Body with Pom Poms
Lay out mini pom poms in a row, lining them up like the segments of a caterpillar.
5. Glue the Pom Poms Together and Attach to the Leaf
Using craft glue or glue dots, attach each pom pom in sequence. Once the glue sets a little, gently lift and glue the entire caterpillar to the top or center of the leaf.
6. Add Googly Eyes to the First Pom Pom
Now it’s time to give your caterpillar a face. Apply a small dot of glue to each googly eye and stick them onto the first pom pom (the caterpillar’s head). This brings personality to the craft and makes it feel complete.
7. Display and Share Your Caterpillar
Once everything is dry, your child can proudly display their hungry caterpillar.
