Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons
  • Glue
  • Popsicle stick
  • Small pom poms
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaner

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Trace the hand

Fold a piece of construction paper in half. Then, trace your child’s hand on the paper with the fold along the side of the palm. When you cut it out, the two hands will stay connected to form symmetrical butterfly wings.

2. Cut and unfold

Carefully cut around the traced hand. When you unfold it, you’ll have a butterfly wing shape made from your child’s own hands.

3. Build the body

Glue a popsicle stick vertically in the center of the wings. This becomes the butterfly’s body. Add small pom poms to decorate the stick and give it some texture and color.

4. Add the face and antennae

Glue on googly eyes at the top of the popsicle stick and attach a short pipe cleaner, bent into antennae. Use glue to secure it in place.

5. Decorate the wings

Let your child decorate the handprint wings using markers, crayons, or stickers. Encourage them to use bright spring colors and patterns.

Capture Springtime Magic
