A Sweet Keepsake for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Looking for a fun, low-mess cactus craft that doubles as a keepsake? This Cactus Handprint Friend is the perfect project. It’s easy to make, toddler-approved, and full of charm—a great way to celebrate spring, Mother’s Day, or just a cozy afternoon at home. It also supports fine motor skills and encourages creative play.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Green cardstock (for the handprint cactus)
  • Brown cardstock (for the pot)
  • Purple and pink cardstock (for the flowers)
  • Small googly eyes
  • Pink paint (for the rosy cheeks)
  • Small pom poms (about 1 cm wide)
  • Black marker (for the smile)
  • Kid-safe glue or hot glue with adult supervision

How to Make Your Cactus Craft Handprint Friend:

1. Trace and Cut the Handprint
Start by tracing your child’s hand on green cardstock and cutting it out. This will be the main part of your cactus craft.

2. Create the Pot
Draw and cut out a simple pot shape using brown cardstock. You can add extra designs or let your child decorate it.

3. Attach the Cactus
Glue the handprint behind the pot so the fingers stick up like cactus arms.

4. Add a Face
Glue on the googly eyes and draw a cheerful smile using the black marker.

5. Paint on Cheeks
Dip the back of a pencil or paintbrush into pink paint and dot on two small cheeks.

6. Decorate the Cactus
Use white, black, or green paint to add tiny dots, Xs, or lines across the handprint to mimic cactus spikes.

7. Make and Add a Flower
Cut a small flower shape from purple or pink cardstock. Glue a pom pom in the center and attach it to one of the fingers for a fun final touch.

This cactus craft is a sweet, simple way to spend quality time with your little one and create something worth saving. Whether you display it on the fridge or gift it to someone special, it’s a fun memory in the making.
